It has been a little over a week since Al and I found out that we're having a baby. We want to keep this a secret for as long as possible. We don't plan on telling our parents until after the first doctor's appointment. We don't plan on "announcing" it to the rest of the world until my first trimester is over and it is weeks away.
I am afraid, however, that my physical appearance will give my secret away. Either the bloat, or the healthy appetite that I have employed for the baby ... it is already making me fat. I am on internet message boards sometimes, and some women that are in their 12th week have only gained a couple pounds and many have even lost some pounds (due to morning sickness). I have stepped on the scale yesterday and I have already gained a whopping 5 pounds! This has made me one depressed person -- and already I'm nervous about finding something nice to wear this week when I have to go to a client site. It is surprising that I can be so vain in the face of such a wonderful miracle -- but alas, I am trying to be honest here.
I do not feel any morning sickness yet, and besides extreme fatigue and occasional mood swings I do not feel particularly pregnant. Sometimes it is hard for me to believe that something is in there. Well, I guess I should enjoy it while I can because I am sure that in a couple of weeks I will be making constant trips to the toilet fairy, and finally, I will realize that I am indeed pregnant.
So I decided to name the baby ALF. Don't worry, we have real names for it when its born (in fact, we already decided).. but for now I think Alf will do. Its a short play on Alphie, and I loved watchcing Alf when I was a little kid, and the alien is kinda cute, no?
