...And We're Rolling!

Today, Izzie rolled over for the first time. Sophie and I had a feeling that she would do so soon, so we actually spent a good chunk of time in the morning videotaping her waiting for the big moment. Well, in true Izzie fashion, she got camera shy, so we decided to turn it off for the day. Later, Sophie and I were discussing something in the kitchen when all of a sudden, I heard Sophie gasp. I turned to see what Sophie was gasping at, and there was our little booboo, lying face down on the ground. She was previously on her back, so she rolled over while neither of us was looking! Unbelievable...anyway, we spent the next half hour just watching her to see if there would be an encore performance, but there was no such luck.

Well, congratulations Izzie! You've now hit all of your 6-month milestones, with a few weeks to spare! Hopefully we'll be able to catch you on camera next time.

A Day with Miles

Yesterday, we went to visit Annie, Brice and Miles! Miles was 12 days old yesterday. To look her best and to show her Cal Bears pride, Izzie wore her Cal onesie:

Look at how cute little Miles is. He is just about the size that Izzie was when she was first born. Albert and I kept saying "we can't believe she used to be that small!" and Annie and Brice kept saying "I can't believe that he's going to get that big!" Its so funny, because around other babies her age, Izzie is a bit on the lighter side. But she sure looks like a porker in this picture. Although, I'm sure MIles will catch up soon - he gained 1 lb in a week (yay Miles and Annie)!

Here they are meeting face to face. =] Cute!

My baby:

And, here, Brice was making funny faces at Izzie. I tried doing the same thing when I got home, but it didn't have the same effect:

Izzie, you're 5 months old today!

Dearest Boo Boo,

You're 5 months old today! Man, time does fly by quickly. You are really a joy to be with. You've started to giggle and laugh - it seems like your favorite people to laugh at are your silly parents. You've also discovered your feet, and just yesterday you've begun to put them in your mouth - too cute. Your favorite toy by far is your wooden drum. You light up when you hear it and just the other day, you were able to beat the drum with the stick yourself. We've regressed a bit in the sleep area - you're no longer that 9 to 10 hour sleeper, but I know you try your best. The world is so exciting that sometimes you just don't want to sleep, and that's okay. This past month has been interesting because you've had to adjust to mommy going back to work. You're an all-star - you seem to be adjusting really well, even though mommy is the one that gets weepy at times. We can't believe it's already been 5 months since you've become a part of our family...we love you so much!

Love,

M+D

We took these pictures as soon as we woke up today. Izzie seems less than amused that I decided to put on a photoshoot, when she was hungry for her breakfast. So much for getting a smiling photo...

What is this sign?

Seriously, what is this sign?

Working out with Boo Boo

Izzie loves to motivate her mom and dad to work out. I've noticed that a sure way to get her to laugh is put her on our bellies and start doing crunches - she'll only laugh if we do the crunches! What a great motivator!

Superman!

Izzie loves to fly. Yesterday, Al and I were playing with her, when she started to laugh. I was taking a video of her, hoping she'd do it again - problem is, when I shove the camera in her face, she gets so enthralled with the camera she doesn't do whatever cute thing she was doing before. Before we took this video, we were trying to get Izzie to giggle (the best sound in the world)... SuperGirl here is distracted by the camera the whole time. As soon as I stop recording, Izzie starts to laugh her cute little heart out. This video is the second attempt at trying to get her to laugh - we sort of succeed.. but man, I wish you guys could see when she really laughs.

Like Mother, Like Daughter

Izzie has been fighting her daytime naps. I guess she thinks playing and chilling with her mommy is a lot more fun than sleeping. We have gone into a routine of rocking her, soothing her to sleep. Sometimes she'll let us put her down, sometimes she won't. Anyway, my nanny decided to put her against blankets and have her hug a pillow while she was sleeping - super fake-out, tricking her into thinking that we're still holding her. And it worked! Al said she looks like me when I was pregnant - I always slept hugging a body pillow with my legs wrapped around.

Sidenote: I've had people give me advice about how I should put my kid to sleep. Izzie has been good to us, that we haven't really done any sleep training and don't really plan to in the near future. Lucky, huh? Anyway, I've had numerous people tell me how she shouldn't get into the habit being rocked to sleep. Well... maybe so, but honestly, one day she's NOT going to want to be held by us, so I figured I'd take advantage of it now and soak it all up while I can. Seriously, its the best feeling in the world when your kid feels soothed and comforted enough to fall asleep in your arms.

This is how we (try to) roll........

So Izzie has been trying to roll for the past few days. She's almost there... but not quite. Anyway, today she was playing on the floor when she decided to wrap herself into a burrito. Happy Cinco de Mayo!

Izzie the Chatterbox

Izzie has become quite the conversationalist. She's mastered the art of talking with her mouth full of fist:

She also loves chilling with her toys:

Next Video....

... will be of Izzie laughing. Yes, people... She has begun to giggle.

Izzie, the Musical Genius

For awhile, Soph has been mentioning how she was going to buy drums for Izzie when she a bit older. I guess banging on pots and pans is the typical infant/toddler pastime, and instead of having to listen to the not-so-pleasant clanging, drums would be more pleasing to the ears. Of course, Izzie is nowhere near sitting up on her own and banging drums, but the other day, Soph comes home proudly declaring "GUESS WHAT I GOT!"

She said she bought it because she saw it in the store and liked the sound. We thought we'd just keep it around for a couple months until Izzie was ready to play with it. Well lo and behold, Izzie absolutely loves the drum. When somebody starts playing the drums, she breaks out into the biggest smile and gets really excited. Future percussionist in the making? We'll see.

Izzie's 4 Month Pediatrician Visit

On Wednesday, Izzie had her four month pediatrician appointment (although it was a few weeks behind schedule). Today was part two in terms of getting shots. She started the process during her last visit and continued it today. Our appointment was in the afternoon, and ended around 4:30. The taxi shift-change in Manhattan is from 4-5pm, during which it's very hard to get a cab. We didn't want to risk getting caught stranded (it would be super annoying to carry a carseat on to the subway), and since our doctor's office was pretty close to the subway station and the weather was nice, we put Izzie into our ergo and took her out for a trip on the train.

When we got there, we took some photos so you can see how much the weather changes in two months. The winter photos were taken from this previous post, which documented Izzie's two-month visit. Once inside, we settled down and hung out for a bit. The doctor gave Izzie a quick examination, and she was doing very well. Sophie was concerned about Izzie's weight gain (being the neurotic mommy she is), but the doctor pointed out that Izzie's weight/height ratio is very good. Basically she's growing in just the right proportions and everything is good. Izzie was smiling and cooing during the whole examination... she had no idea that she was getting her shots.

When the first shot went in, Izzie didn't even flinch, and I thought "wow, you really are a tough kid." But then the doctor said "that one didn't go into the muscle, this next one will hurt." And sure enough, when the next shot went in, Izzie started screaming. The first one of the painful shots wasn't so bad, but getting four painful shots in a row had her crying louder and louder. Fortunately, she stopped crying in about 30 seconds and she calmed down quickly. Sophie decided to feed her before we left the doctors office.

Izzie decided to end the visit by throwing up all over my shirt. It's been awhile since she last did that, so I guess she felt the need to remind us that she was still capable of spitting up. She ended up having a low-grade fever that night, but she seems to have kicked it, and she's back to her smart, cute and happy self now.
