2 Month Pediatrician Visit: English Visitors, Vaccines and a Winter Wonderland

We had Izzie's 2 month pediatrician visit a couple days ago. It snowed a ton the night before (our first sustained snowfall of the year), and by morning, there was about two feet's worth piled on the ground. It was a bit unpleasant to be outside (dirty slush on the sidewalks, freezing rain), but Central Park was absolutely gorgeous. Our pediatrician's office is on Central Park West, so we were able to get a pretty good view on the way to and from the office. Sophie said that she couldn't wait until Izzie was old enough to play in the snow.

While we were waiting to go in, we ended up talking to a British couple who were also there with their 9-month old grandson. The Brits were pretty friendly, and we chatted about various differences between the UK and America. I'm not entirely sure, and maybe Sophie can verify or deny, but I think at one point in the conversation I may have started emulating their accent. The 9-month old was pretty big. I was holding Izzie on my shoulder while we were talking to them, and it struck me just how much Izzie would grow over the next half year. Later in the conversation, I asked them to explain to me the difference between England, the United Kingdom, and Great Britain, and how the political hierarchy works, but I guess even Brits aren't entirely clear on the concept. Not too different from Americans I suppose...

The 2-month visit is where babies get their first set of vaccinations. Izzie ended up getting five vaccines in four shots (two of them were combined). The doctor stuck them in succession pretty rapidly, all in her thigh. Izzie cried a bit, but for the most part, sucked it up and took it like a champ. Babies supposedly react in all kinds of different ways to vaccines - some cry, some get sick, and others sleep. I guess we got lucky, because Izzie ended up sleeping most of the weekend. She had a minor fever afterwards, but shook it off pretty quickly.

The only other kinda interesting thing were Izzie's measurements. She's grown about 4.75 inches since she was born, and is now in the 91st height percentile for her age. Her weight is above average also, but not quite that high. You can check out the feature on the sidebar at the right that we recently added to track Izzie's growth.

Ok, I didn't make this post very fun to read. That's why Sophie does most of the writing. I guess my only saving grace will be pictures. So without further ado...
